Project Summary
Ysgol Y Deri is the largest special school in the UK and is home to 330 pupils. Following national recognition and success, admissions have been rising year on year and while the school
await an additional new build, there was an urgent requirement for increased classroom provision for the September 2022 term. Vale of Glamorgan Council approached McAvoy in mid-June 2022 with the task of providing a premium quality temporary teaching space on a turn-key basis in time for the September 2022 term.
The Offsite Solution
Within one week of receiving the enquiry, McAvoy had surveyed the site and provided full confirmed costs with a commitment to meeting the time critical dates. Following appointment as principal contractor, McAvoy designed, built, and handed over the new SmartClass® facility in readiness for the September term in less than 11 weeks from instruction and less than 5 weeks on site.

As part of our turnkey solution McAvoy supplied a site survey, foundations, service connections, car park alterations and a Part-M compliant access ramp.
Sustainability
Our SmartClass® range features LED lighting with motion sensors, a state of the art climate control system and enhanced thermal fabric perfomance as standard.
Complete Solution
The SmartClass modular building features an entrance lobby with cloakroom area, accessible WC & two individual pupil toilets with IPS, as well as two 62m2 classrooms with wetplay areas and dedicated storage rooms.
