Modular Off-site Schools

McAvoy Think Smart Build Smart, the leading offsite modular construction firm, offers exciting new solutions in the battle to fast track more space for schools.

The James Review on the future of schools capital has been recently launched. The key watchwords from the review are building condition, standardisation and more for less. James stated in the report that “lower-cost build processes can be designed in from the start” and that “over time, off-site construction will be possible for some standard elements.”

With this in mind McAvoy has put 40 years experience to good use, developing options we know offer schools a real opportunity to gain quality accommodation that is deliverable within budgetary restraints and is more sustainable in use. This applies to all options, from single classrooms to entire schools.

As experts in offsite building, we know and understand exactly the types of issues clients face; this is why the whole McAvoy package is geared towards relieving the pressures associated with the planning and delivery of additional facilities within a working school environment.

Now is an ideal time to explore the opportunities that McAvoy can deliver. Ask us about our smart schools concepts.

Premier Inn Pods

The McAvoy Group have secured a contract to design and manufacture bathroom pods for the new 122-bedroom Premier Inn in Lavington Street, Southwark, London.

McAvoy Group will manufacture the complete pods in Lisburn for the London Office of Bennett Construction Ltd, the main contractor building the latest hotel in the successful Premier Inn chain.

We are a UK industry leader in the design and manufacture of bathroom and bedroom pods. The bathroom pods for Bennett Construction in London will be provided fully-fitted with quality tiling, sanitary ware, showers and lighting for ease of installation at the hotel on a restricted site in the centre of London. We are delighted to be working with Bennett Construction Ltd on this important contract which strengthens our position as a leading supplier of fully-fitted pods to the hospitality sector.

As the hotel is located in the centre of London access is restricted and transport is limited to certain times. The contractor required a smart solution to help surmount the restricted access to the site. Our focus on innovation and the latest off-site technology enabled us to offer a smart design and build solution.

Our experienced in-house design team developed the steel cage design around the standard Premier Inn Bathroom and Less Abled Bathroom layouts. The bathrooms include high quality fittings from Hansgrohe, Ideal Standard and Kaldewei.

The finish features tiled and painted walls, a mosaic feature band around the basin and a Solid Surface Corian Vanity top. All fixtures and finishes are in line with the Premier Inn Brand Standards. There are in total 116 standard bathrooms and six less abled bathrooms for wheel chair users.

All pods will be fully quality checked in line with ISO9001 and will be issued with the required mechanical and electrical certificates.

The McAvoy group will complete the design and manufacture of the pods over eight weeks in line with the client’s delivery programme.

Growth Through Acquisition

McAvoy has completed the acquisition of Maccom in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, which is one of the Republic’s biggest providers of modular buildings. Maccom was formed in 1996 as a joint venture between McAvoy Group and the then Accom company of Balbriggan, and had developed a broad customer base including the Department of Education and Skills in Dublin.

The acquisition of the assets and business of Maccom sees the Balbriggan company trading in the Republic under the McAvoy identity. McAvoy business development director Orla Corr said: “This acquisition of Maccom is an immensely important initiative, which will bring extensive benefits to existing and potential customers throughout the Republic. We will be offering customers our design-based solution to their building requirements. McAvoy has developed an extremely strong brand and reputation as a developer of smart building solutions that meet the specific accommodation requirements of individual customers using the latest off-site manufacturing technologies. The Acquisition is designed to eliminate any possible market confusion and means customers are dealing directly with McAvoy Think Smart: Build Smart.

The existing senior management at Balbriggan is remaining in place so customers are able to continue to deal with experienced personnel here.
