McAvoy partners with Wellington College for the Adopt a School Scheme

McAvoy had the pleasure of hosting a visit from Wellington College as part of the Adopt a School Scheme, facilitated by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), at our Lisburn manufacturing facility.

This initiative, known as the “Adopt A School” scheme, was launched by the CITB to foster engagement, awareness, and understanding of the construction industry among students, with the aim of inspiring them to explore careers in this important sector.

In today’s rapidly changing world, it is vital to equip the younger generation with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the job market. Recognising the significance of education and the construction industry’s role in shaping society, we partnered with Wellington College to offer students a first-hand experience of our precision manufacturing processes. During their visit, they had the opportunity to witness our operations, ask questions, and learn from our team of experienced experts. With live projects such as Oasis Academy currently being manufactured the students were able to see offsite manufacturing in action.

The visit also included interactive workshops and engaging presentations from the McAvoy team, where the students learned about the importance of sustainability, quality control, health & safety in the workplace and the future of our industry.

McAvoy will continue to work with Wellington College to provide:

  • Regular site visits
  • Design and construction office visits
  • Job sampling, allowing students to try it themselves.
  • Work experience opportunities for students and teachers
  • Sponsorship of school awards
  • Provide presentations and talks to the students and teachers
  • Participate in Career fairs and open evenings for parents and students
  • Provision of specialist equipment for the Technology Department

We hope this experience has inspired the students to pursue their passions, consider careers in construction, and embrace the endless possibilities that lie ahead. We look forward to developing our partnership with Wellington College in the future.
