Congratulations to The McAvoy Group’s Site Manager, Paul Ashe who is a nominated finalist at the London LABC Building Excellence Awards, under the ‘LABC Non-Residential Site Agent of the Year’ category. The award nomination comes on the back of Paul’s work at Goresbrook School in Dagenham.
Dave Ewing, of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council paid tribute to McAvoy’s Site Manager Paul Ashe’s “courteous and professional” approach.
“His particular strengths come to the fore with his planning and programming skills, and the ability to produce a realistic schedule of works.
“He commands respect from all the various trades and contractors with whom he works, largely due to his man management skills, and displays a steady influence whilst working under the constant pressures and constraints of today’s Construction Industry.”
McAvoy have also been recognised at the awards, with the Goresbrook School project being shortlisted for ‘Best Public Service Building’ and ‘Best Educational Building.’
McAvoy was awarded the contract for the 10,381m² project through the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) Framework which is funded through the Education Funding Authority.
As principal contractor, McAvoy was responsible for leading the project from feasibility approval, outline and then detailed design through to planning and delivery of all internal and external aspects of the challenging and complex scheme.
The new institution, run by London Borough of Barking and Dagenham’s organisation United Learning, forms a beautiful community hub and optimal learning environment for children from three to 18 to develop, grow and learn, from reception to sixth form.
The outstanding new construction was completed ahead of schedule and features leading-edge, ecologically-sound materials. The structure was designed to create natural, lofty, light-filled spaces with complementary facilities including gymnasium and spectator seating. It is also wheelchair accessible with lifts throughout permitting access to all floors.
The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 16th June at the Guildhall, London. Winners from each regional awards ceremony will qualify for the LABC Grand Finals, taking place in London on Friday 10 November.
