Gerard Donnelly, Contracts Manager at The McAvoy Group, has been named Project Manager of the Year at the Offsite Construction Awards.
The award is in recognition of the outstanding delivery of the £20m Lynch Hill Enterprise Academy project in Slough – one of the UK’s largest ever modular schools.
The Offsite Awards recognise and celebrate best practice, innovation and expertise in offsite construction, through landmark projects, influential individuals and manufacturing excellence.
Under Gerard’s exemplary management, the 8,750m2 Lynch Hill project was delivered an unprecedented 17 weeks ahead of schedule, giving the school the benefit of earlier occupation. It has created a 1140-place academy for post-primary education with an emphasis on developing STEM and enterprise skills.
Use of a McAvoy offsite solution and a number of new innovations reduced the build programme to just 12 months which is a significant achievement for a project of this scale and has saved around six months compared to site-based construction. The approach was also much safer on site and there were no reportable incidents or accidents during the construction programme.

Lynch Hill is an exemplar offsite education project. Its facilities include an enterprise exchange, dynamic circulation and social spaces, science laboratories and technology studios, open plan learning and design studios, sixth form study and social space, a four-court sports hall, and a main hall with retractable seating.
