Praise for new Commonweal School, Sixth Form Centre

From rather undistinguished staff car park to vibrant sixth form centre in nine months: everybody involved in Commonweal School’s latest success deserves praise.

Welcoming sixth formers back to the school for the first time is a major achievement, so it is fitting that the occasion should be marked with a major new environment for them.

It is telling that Debra Searle MVO MBE, who officially opened the new centre, was full of praise for the young people during her visit yesterday, saying she was “blown away” by how involved they were in the design process. We hope the centre will be cherished by its users for many years to come and be another successful part of Swindon.

The new building gives the students state-of-the-art facilities for their studies and has been built alongside a new sports centre. It was first brought into use at the beginning of the academic year and has already proved popular with the teenagers.

Keith Defter, Head teacher added that “It is something most students never get the chance to experience.”
