The McAvoy Group was awarded the contract to design, manufacture and install a 16 classroom modular school building.
The Requirement
As a result of demographic change leading to increased demand for additional school places Loreto College required the provision of a new 16 classroom secondary education building. The new facility comprised general classroom accommodation, science laboratories and Home Economics and Art Classrooms.
The Solution
Site access and logistical constraints necessitated an offsite manufactured solution to mitigate the challenging site conditions. McAvoy’s experienced in-house Technical and Design team produced the design for the 1200m2 two storey galvanised steel frame building. The external envelope comprised a maintenance free bonded insulated panel external wall withCorus Colourcoat plastisol steel, a Kingspan KS1000RW insulated panel roof system, UPVC window frames with ‘Low E’ glazing and a one hour fire rating throughout.
Electrical installation included general power, general lighting, emergency and external lighting, Fire and intruder alarms and complete data installation. The mechanical scope included a high efficiency gas fired combi boiler with high levels radiators, sanitaryware and the complex science room fit out.
Internal fit-out and finish included heavy duty vinyl floor covering with welded cove skirting and vinyl faced plasterboard internal walls and ceilings for improved durability and maintenance.
Contract Period
McAvoy was required to meet a challenging constructionprogramme incorporating school holidays to minimise disruption to the daily working of the school. The client’s expectations in terms of cost, quality and delivery were satisfied within the 12 week programme.
